Instagrammable food in Hong Kong

After visiting Hong Kong for a couple of times. I've realised that one of the things that the Hongkie LOVE about : shopping and eating. If the locals aren’t out on the streets of Causeway Bay shopping, they’re probably out for yumcha (dim sum) or checking out the hottest eateries in town. Honestly, there’s just not enough time, money and stomach space for you to eat all the food in Hong Kong. So, you still have to be selective and go for your priority food. For me, i like locals Chinese food and i love something Insta-worthy and tastes good at the same time! Hahaha. Therefore, here is a summary of some of the places i went for this round. 


I could not resist when my friends told me that there’s actually Gudetama-themed dim sum restaurant. I mean, cute and tasty?! Of course, I had to give it a shot! Dim Sum Icon has two outlets in Hong Kong, the most popular one should be the one in THE ONE at Tsim Sha Tsui, but I went to the one in Central. Its around 5 minutes walk from the MRT station. 

Egg Yolk Buns (HK$45)
These were bomb. Surprisingly, it tastes good too! I loved the egg custard filling inside. 
We also ordered the Chocolate Bun. It’s all about making your characterised buns poop and puke now. We had fun poking the mouth and butt. LOL

These were really delicious, it was a pleasant surprise because I expect that usually themed cafes serve yucky food but surprisingly Dim Sum Icon is not bad at all. Definitely worth to visit!

We are the Bao, NOT. hahahaha. 
This is one of the trending food places in HK. We tried to find the location but we ended up took a cab here from Central district. I'm glad we did because it is quite a walking distance from the centre of Central. But anyways, We are HERE for the Little Bao, a modern Chinese diner , is influenced by the international tastes of its hometown Hong Kong. 

Basically, it is some Asian burgers. We ordered The signature Pork Belly Bun (HK$78) 
Fish Tempura Bao is my favourite one! It consisting of fried fresh market fish, tamarind palm sugar glaze, pickled lemongrass fennel salad ($78 HKD)

Ice Cream Sandwich (HK$48) was a good way to end the meal.
 It is essentially green tea ice cream sandwiched between two deep-fried bao
Overall, these Bao tastes really good. Just a bit pricey but it's worth to try! If you want to snap a good pictures of these Bao for your social media, visit it during the afternoon session because it is really hard to take photo at night.

Ichiran have been around for many years and has been really popular in Japan. This one is located in Causeway Bay, the Hong Kong Ichi-ran is a 24-hour operation.  Honestly, I'm not a big fans of Ramen, but trust me! This is really good because you can choose everything by your own. For me, I always choose the weak flavour for the soup based because i don't like it too strong and for the noodles I prefer it to be soft! Yay, you can just tick and customise your own. 

It is really a nice experience to dine in Ichiran because you get your own cubicle. These individual partitioned seats are great when you dine on your own. I love it because i can finally enjoy my food without talking to the person in front of me. LOL

How can you not eat wanton noodle when in HongKong? Guess what, Mak’s Noodle 麥奀雲吞麵世家 is another most talked about wanton noodles. I would highly suggest you not the order the wanton noodles in soup because it tastes really weird and it is served in a small bowl. Tziaaa ordered it. Even at a pricey HK$36 for that small bowl of noodles. 
 It is better to order the dry noodles with soup separately, much more better.

Anyway, ENJOY if you have a chance to visit Mak's Noodle. They have a lot of branches around Hong Kong. Try to visit the one in Central! I heard my friend said it is much more better than the others branch. Tell me if it is good! :)

Lan Fong Yuen is one of Hong Kong’s oldest and most famous 茶餐厅 since 1952. They are said to be the inventors of the ‘silk stockings milk tea’ (絲襪奶茶), French toast and they have a famously delicious pork chop bun.  A must try spot if you are searching for an authentic HK dining experience.
The one i went is one of their new branches in Tsim Sha Tsui. It is located in the basement of the hostel headquarters Chung King Mansions.

Sham Tseng 深井

There are many things to eat in Hong Kong, but one of the must-eats is definitely roast goose. Of course, there are plenty of roast goose in HK you can find but we went to one of the best! It is better to pre book before you go so you don’t have to wait for table. But, Sham Tseng is actually like a village at countryside of HK where it is not directly reachable via MTR, your only choice of transportation of getting here are bus and taxi. Lucky us, we have friend in HK who drove us there!

Here comes the foooood. 

The mixed platter consisted of various items, such as cold jellyfish, intestines, goose wings and feet.
We ordered a mixed platters and half of the goose ( HKD 250 )

The real crispy skin and tender, juicy flesh goose! Served with a sweet plum sauce. With or without the sauce, it is still tasty. Trust me, It is really crispy, almost crackling and the thin layer of oil and fat that comes along with it. Sorry, diet starts after this meal.

Overall, it was all good and well worth the extra calories. Hahaha. Give it a try!

  1. After doing search of all hotel comparison sites …..Had been here on business many years ago but were delighted to see that it was just as good. Only a one night stay at the weekend but facilities, room, and evening meal were all excellent - very good value. Well trained and attentive staff.
